Day by day itinerary ...

Day 1 – Into the maze

We launch at Mon and zig-zag northeast through nature reserve Uggelholmarna towards the beautiful islands south of Aspoja. There are several bird sanctuaries for excellent bird watching, and Sea eagles are a very common sight around these islands.

Day 2 – A band of islands against the horizon

Our following day is a gorgeous paddle southeast through the outer archipelago and its barren, wind-pined little islands. The horizon and the open sea is our backdrop, and if we're lucky we may spot seals out here. After a strenuous day we reach the famous navigation mark Kupa Klint. It's a great lookout with spectacular views of the hundreds of skerries of the Missjö Archipelago - the most finely-chiselled archipelago that exists in Sweden.

Inside the outer band of skerries is the large island Missjö and its parallell islands. It's superb for camping. Our guide knows all the nooks and crannies and will find a fantastic sheltered spot for the night.

Day 3 – An enchanted island at the edge of the sea

Our exploration continues south towards Harstena Village, renowned for its picturesque and historic beauty. We enjoy a lunch of typical archipelago fair at the water-side restaurant and stroll around the island. After a visit to the old school/museum and seal processing factory, we end our idyllic outing with a visit to the local bakery for traditional cinnamon swirls.

We head southeast aiming for magical Yttero island with its smooth rocky beaches and old gnarly pine trees. There are lots of firn and aspen here, which is very unusual this far out in the archipelago. We find higher ground for an amazing view of the archipelago, and wander the forest path to the enchanting little lake on the island. Yttero is surrounded by sanctuaries for sea birds that nest on the outer islands.

Day 4 – Sidling up to a wall of rock

We make our way west from the outer archipelago towards the larger sheltered islands closer to the mainland. Our guide may bring us to a hidden sandy beach, which is very rare around these parts. A beautiful narrow passage north of Krakmaro takes us through an area with many traditional summer houses, indeed a very different landscape than the one we left behind at the horizon.

The archipelago is generally smooth and quite flat, but more dramatic scenery awaits by the passage at Vaggon with its steep, rocky walls, crashing into the water. We continue our paddle to the nature reserve on the southern tip of Vaggon. Here we can either hike a trail across the island or sunbathe on one of the secluded rocky beaches.

Camp spots are best found on the smaller islands south of Vaggon, and that evening the local fisherman at Hasko will bring us smoked fish and his catch of the day for a delicious fiest for our last night.

Day 5 – Due west for the mainland

Our final day takes us southeast to the lookout at Gubbon and the abandoned copper mine on Fango. We zig-zag through the gorgeous islands to the south back towards the mainland and finish our adventure at Fyrudden.

Transport to Saint Anna

Saint Anna is located an hour southeast of Norrköping. Its proximity to the city quickly disappears as you travel the windy country-side roads towards the coast.

Return transport Norrköping–Saint Anna

The easiest and quickest option is included in our package. Our driver will pick you up at the train station or hostel/hotel in Norrköping at 10 am. The drive to Saint Anna takes about an hour. Access to our comprehensive food order system included. Plan and order ahead of time and we shop and pack for you, same price as in the supermarket.

Rental/own car

A car means lots of freedom and makes food shopping easier. There are large supermarkets in Norrköping with a Systembolaget adjacent (the Swedish alcohol monopoly store, regular supermarkets only sell 3.5% beer, nothing else).

Whether you are coming from the north or south you will aim for Söderköping. Take road 210 just south of Söderköping towards Sankt Anna (about 40 km). Drive 800 meters past the bridge "Lagnöbron", turn left at the sign to Mons Camping, and continue 2 km to our kayak centre by the waterfront. Free private parking available. Several pick-up points to choose from for ending your kayaking trip, transport back to Mon included.
